          Welcome to an AFRICASAFAR

in Mrs. Dorn's Classroom!

As you begin your journey, you might encounter a ferocious lion prowling about the savanna or a hungry giraffe eating tasty leaves from an acacia tree.  Come along and don't forget to grab your binoculars.  You won't want to miss a single thing along the way!

It is exciting to begin a new school year! There will be several opportunities for the children to grow and develop their God-given gifts and abilities. Reading is a great place to start! Our classroom library will offer many opportunities to explore different authors and types of literature. In addition, the children will make weekly trips to St. John's Library to check out an updated collection of books for every grade level!

Besides our usual classroom curriculum, we will study about Africa this year. It will be awesome to recognize all of God's beautiful creation on the Serengeti Plain! Classroom decorations, art projects, and mapping activities will excite the students to explore our theme in many ways. I am also anxious to share awesome trade books from my personal "animal habitat" collection!

Most importantly, we will learn about Jesus from the New Testament and how He came to fulfill God's plan to save us. Please encourage your child to review and share these Bible lessons with you at home. It is certainly a privilege to hear and teach the message of the Gospel at St. John's!

May God bless our school this year and the precious children in our care!
